What is counselling? 2017-11-28T11:23:46+00:00

Counselling is a process that creates a relationship between the counsellor and the client. It is a process in which individuals have the opportunity to improve upon their understanding of themselves, including their patterns of thoughts, behaviours, feelings, and the ways in which these may have been problematic in their lives. The aim is to help clients help themselves work towards more satisfying and resourceful lives

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy? 2017-11-29T16:16:41+00:00

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a ‘talking’ treatment that helps many people with problems such as depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. CBT can help you identify and change your thought and behaviour patterns. This approach is usually done in short-term therapy.

What is psychodynamic counselling? 2017-12-11T13:14:31+00:00

Psychodynamic Counselling explores unconscious patterns of behaviour that have been developed as a result of early life experiences and beliefs.

In order to keep painful feelings, memories and experiences in the unconscious, people tend to develop defence mechanisms such as denial.

Through gaining an understanding of these patterns and the defences we have constructed, we can begin to grow emotionally developing more fulfilling relationships and a greater sense of well-being

Is counselling confidential? 2017-11-28T11:24:29+00:00

Sessions are strictly confidential and are based on respect and trust. I work within the guidelines codes of ethics and professional practice set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

How can counselling help? 2017-11-29T16:17:39+00:00

Many of us face a variety of problems within our lives. Sometimes our problems become too much for us to handle and can affect our happiness, relationships, performance at work and even our health. When this occurs we often need support in resolving them.

Counselling can help people find their own solutions. I provide therapy in Bury St Edmunds to help individuals develop their self-awareness and identify their problems. Together we explore their individual experience of anxiety and distress and gain insight into repeating patterns of behaviour that may prevent them from leading fulfilling and satisfying lives.

Will you give me advice? 2017-12-11T13:15:41+00:00

No – Counselling is not about being told what to do or how to feel.

We will explore your feelings and thoughts to allow you to make your own decisions about how to move forward
